Marion Cotillard was astonishing and superb. She gave an extremely emotional performance and played the role of Edith Piaf perfectly. Her performance is one that will be hard to forget. The film itself was dark, beautiful, and intense. Although long, it held my full attention the entire 140 minute running-time. This is a must see picture. 5/5.

The New York Times published an article titled, "A French Songbird’s Life, in Chronological Disorder", Written by A. O. SCOTT on June 8, 2007. A good article, however, Mr. Scott comments "But it is equally hard to be completely swept up in Mr. Dahan’s dutiful, functional and ultimately superficial film." Dutiful? Functional? SUPERFICAL??? O.o Personally, I think the Mr.Scott may need to sharpen his faculties. This film is brilliant! I was completely swept away. No one should miss this masterpiece! 100/100!

No words can describe the excellence and beauty of this film. Cotillard's performance as Edith Piaf was stunning and impeccable. No matter how many times I watch this film, it always gets me. Truly a superb film that was made with such great direction, cinematography, humour and most importantly, love.

Thank you for the fresh links!! I was dying to see this film and it did not dissapoint. There were times when I wasn't sure who some of the people were but never did I lose sight of Edith. Marion Cotillard is nothing short of superb from beginning to tragic end. Encore!

Best Film I've ever seen!... Emotionally, you'd have to be pretty heartless to not be moved by the ending.

Description from IMDB: Biopic of the iconic French singer Édith Piaf. Raised by her grandmother in a brothel, she was discovered while singing on a street corner at the age of 19. Despite her success, Piaf's life was filled with tragedy.

One of my absolute favourite films. I knew nothing of Edith Piaf when I first watched this, but now have a great appreciation for this French singer. Marion Cotillard is strikingly similar to the Belle of French Chanson, Edith Piaf, and her role is acted with such depth and wild emotion that it's a shame this film wasn't as acclaimed as it should have been. Ultimately, Piaf's life was a dramatic tragedy and you're left feeling a little more broken than when you went in. The emotions it stirs in you is the reason I love film.
