Wow, that was some sad shit. I actually got teary eyed. But it is nice to see that the courts got it right instead of screwing her over like we see most of the time in cases were a child acted out because of the abuse they endured.

Everyone failed this girl, though they saw what was happening. Doctors. Social service workers. Police (big surprise there). Family. Friends.

As sad and tragic as this story is, there was a sliver of light for her at the end, if, like her Dad said, she can stay strong and hang in there for her term. You know you were evil when your own family says to flush your cremains down the toilet. Personally, IMO,if a Judge can let someone walk for shooting a teenager in the back of the head over orange juice, they could have given her probation and house arrest at her Dads, but thats just me.

what bothers me about this story is that had gypsy been abducted, held for 20 years and tortured in the same fashion and then had killed her abductor, she wouldve been hailed as a survivor and hero. she isnt the one who should be in prison. all the doctors, social service people and cops who allowed this should be

How calloused a society we live and the system in taking ZERO responsibility for what happened to GypsyRose since birth! This girl doesn't belong in anyone's prison, she belongs in mental health facility and she needs serious therapy for the hell she came to live out her entire life! That prosecutor is really not much better than her mother for punishing her yet again especially under the circumstances. I wish she had not plead guilty.

I think Gypsy suffered way more than enough from her mother. this is justice letting that girl down yet again. get her some mental health for what she went threw and has to face but no time. the boyfriend said he had mental problems. to him he was rescuing gypsy from her mother. this is such a sad story. the father should feel ashamed. did he ever go to a doc app. or takin her off by herself? he needs to feel the guilt for the rest of his life. he is already giving himself excuses.

so....if you suffer abuse at the hands of someone else, especially a family member, all your life, so that death seems the only way out; its ok to take your life, but not the life of the tormentor..thats messed up. she should not be in prison..she needs therapy, education, etc.lots of help, but not that of jails or prison..what does this say to others out there going thru & raised in abusive homes? suck it up, buttercup?

this was interesting. very fucked up. it was crass to make a documentary centered on this event and have a shitty buzzfeed reporter constantly giving their 2 cents. she had no purpose in it. the story speaks for itself, we didn't need her help. i would've preferred to hear more from psychologists and her doctors over some shitty clickbait writer. i have no problem believing her mother was a very evil controlling woman, but it's hard to believe she was somehow so good at this that she could convince doctors to do all these surgeries? something fishy. i guess just enjoy/despair over the story for what it is.

Very sad and shocking. I agree with the other comments I think she needs to be put into a hospital not prison. She is so mentally wired. 9/10 bc it's a documentary.

I can't understand why the doctors didn't see that there really was nothing wrong her, did I miss something? This whole story is awful and don't think that Gypsy should be in prison, she should be getting very serious help with her mental condition. This law system is the worst!! I truly don't believe in our justice system in any way shape or form. Anything happens to you , shut up and just say lawyer!!! You can put in jail for years for no reason at all, even without evidence?

Oh god, that poor girl. Though I have to say, she's incredibly articulate and insightful for someone who was forced to act retarded for most of her life and never completed school beyond the 2nd grade. She expresses herself extremely well. So sad to think how differently her life could have turned out if she'd been raised by someone other than her evil, basket-case mother. The crazy boyfriend certainly didn't do her any favours, either. I know he claims it was all her idea, but I kind of doubt she would have ended up actually planning/participating in her mother's murder if he hadn't been in the picture. I guess the good news is that she will get out of prison young enough to still have some hope of some kind of life and future beyond all this, and her dad and step-mom seem like good, supportive people.

her mother literally abused her since birth, how the hell did she end up in prison??? i know murder is murder, but did she not have a lawyer or someone try to plead insanity or something? it's bewildering to me

Terrible and fascinating. I really hope Gypsy can get her fairytale ending one day, after all she's been through

The insight to this case was shocking, all the reports that had some out when the case was first brought to my attention late last year is enough to make me hope for the best for Gypsy Rose.. but now knowing more details about how she was forced to live. It's disturbing at how much the system failed this girl.

This really messed with my head as I watched it....I felt sorry for the daughter as she hugged her dad, knowing all she had gone through... but I was waiting for a knife to come out, as she stabbed him !Both mother and daughter were Looney Tunes...I wouldnt trust either of them ! Brilliant Doco ! 10/10
